1. When is the best time to book a newborn photoshoot? It’s best to book your newborn photoshoot during your pregnancy, ideally after your 20-week scan. Photographers in Derby often get booked up weeks or even months in advance, so securing your session early ensures availability.

2. What is the ideal age for newborn photography? The ideal window is between 7 and 14 days old. During this time, newborns tend to sleep deeply and curl naturally into those adorable poses. After two weeks, babies become more alert and less flexible, which can make posed shots more challenging. The photoshoot itself usually takes place within the first 7–14 days after birth, when babies are sleepier and easier to pose.

3. How long does a newborn photoshoot take?Newborn sessions are typically relaxed and can last between 2 to 4 hours. This allows plenty of time for feeding, soothing, nappy changes, and settling your baby comfortably without rushing.

4. Where does the photoshoot take place? All of my newborn photoshoots take place in Derby where I offer studio sessions in a warm, controlled environment with professional lighting and props.

5. What should my baby wear?Newborns are usually photographed in soft wraps, blankets, or simple outfits provided by MHB Photography. Minimal clothing helps keep the focus on your baby’s tiny features. You can also bring a special outfit or sentimental item if you wish.

6. Do I need to bring anything to the session? It’s helpful to bring essentials like nappies, wipes, milk (if bottle-feeding), a dummy (even if not regularly used), and any personal items you’d like included in the photos. You will be guided you on anything else needed beforehand.

7. Is newborn photography safe?Yes, when handled by an experienced professional, newborn photography is very safe. I am trained in safe posing techniques and will always prioritise your baby’s comfort and wellbeing. Many poses are carefully supported or composited for safety.

8. Can parents and siblings be included?Absolutely! Many families choose to include parents and siblings in the session. These images create beautiful, meaningful memories and add a personal touch to your gallery.

9. How should we prepare for the photoshoot?Try to keep your baby awake for a short period before the session and feed them just before you arrive. A full, sleepy baby is easier to pose. Dress your baby in loose clothing to avoid marks on the skin.

10. How much does a newborn photoshoot in Derby cost?Prices vary depending on your budget and your preference, session length, and what’s included (digital images, prints, albums). At MHB Photography, you can expect to pay anywhere from £185 to £535 or more for a professional newborn session with everything included.

11. When will we receive our photos?Editing typically takes 1 to 3 weeks. I will provide a gallery for you to view and select your favourite images, depending on the package you’ve chosen.

12. What if my baby doesn’t settle during the session?Don’t worry—as a newborn photographer, I am very patient and experienced in soothing babies. Sessions are flexible, and breaks are built in to accommodate your baby’s needs. If necessary, I may offer a reshoot option.
