What makes MHB Photography different?

Price is important, but choosing a newborn photographer is also about trusting someone to create photographs of a very special time in your family's life.

Here are some of the things I want parents to consider when choosing MHB Photography.

A specialist approach to posed newborn photography

My focus is on creating beautiful, carefully posed newborn portraits, using suitable setups, props and accessories to achieve a variety of looks.

I take the time to work with each baby individually. Every session is different, and your baby's comfort always comes first. If your little one needs feeding, changing or settling, we take the time needed.

A choice of colours and styling

Your photographs don't all have to look the same. Depending on your chosen collection, we can incorporate different props, outfits and setups to create variety throughout your gallery.

I love working with soft pastels, floral details and a range of colours, as well as more classic newborn portraits.

If you have particular colours in mind for your baby's photographs, we can discuss these before your appointment.

Family photographs are part of the experience

Your newborn's first portraits are important, but so are the photographs of you together.

Parents and siblings can be included in your session, giving you the opportunity to preserve those early family memories alongside your baby's individual portraits.

I generally recommend taking family photographs at the beginning of the session, so we can capture these images before moving on to the individual newborn setups.

A range of packages to suit different budgets

I understand that every family has a different budget and different expectations.

My Mini collection is available for parents who would like a smaller selection of photographs, while the larger packages offer more digital images and printed keepsakes.

You can decide how many photographs you'd like to receive without having to choose the largest collection simply to enjoy a professional newborn photoshoot.

Digital photographs and professional prints

For families who value printed photographs, my larger packages combine digital images with matching professional prints.

This means you can share your photographs digitally while also having prints ready to display or keep.

It's worth comparing the cost of prints when looking at different photographers, as purchasing them separately can affect the overall amount you spend.

An established studio experience in Derby

MHB Photography is based in Mackworth, Derby, offering a dedicated home studio for newborn sessions.

Booking a photographer locally can make planning your session easier, particularly when you're arranging everything around a new baby. You can discuss your preferred package, ask questions before your appointment and prepare for your visit in advance.

I want parents to feel comfortable and informed throughout the process, from the first enquiry to choosing their favourite photographs.

When should you book a newborn photographer?

If you're comparing photographers during pregnancy, I recommend enquiring early rather than waiting until your baby arrives.

Newborn sessions are ideally photographed during the first 7–14 days, when traditional posed portraits are often most suitable. Reserving your session in advance gives you time to discuss the options and secure a place in the diary.

Of course, babies arrive when they're ready, so it's important to discuss flexibility around your due date when booking.

If you're also considering maternity photography, you may wish to arrange both sessions together. This allows you to preserve the final stages of pregnancy as well as your baby's early days, with a consistent photographic style across both collections.

So, which newborn photography package should you choose?

Before making your decision, think about the photographs you'll treasure most.

If you would like a few individual portraits, a smaller package may be enough. If you want a variety of poses, family photographs and printed keepsakes, a larger collection may be more suitable.

Look at each photographer's actual work, read reviews, compare the inclusions and make sure you understand the booking terms before paying a deposit.

Most importantly, choose a photographer whose style you genuinely love. The photographs are something you'll return to for years, so it's worth finding someone whose work feels right for your family.
