Twin Cake Smash Photoshoot in Derby | A Fun-Filled First Birthday Celebration

There is something incredibly special about welcoming returning customers back into my Derby photography studio. Watching families grow year after year is one of the most rewarding parts of being a Derby family photographer, and this recent twin cake smash photoshoot was no exception.

I've been photographing this wonderful family for years. I first met them when their older brother celebrated his milestones, and it has been such a privilege to capture their memories every year since. Seeing families return and trusting me to document each new chapter means so much, and it's amazing to look back and see how everyone has grown.

This time it was Molly and George's turn to celebrate their first birthday with a twin cake smash session. From the moment they arrived, they were full of smiles, laughter, and curiosity. They were so much fun to photograph, each with their own little personality shining through every image.

For their setup, we chose a timeless, simple design using neutral-coloured balloons with beautiful pearly white balloons. Keeping the décor clean and elegant meant the focus stayed exactly where it should be—on Molly and George. Neutral styling is always a favourite because it creates photographs that won't go out of fashion and complements every home.

Of course, no cake smash photoshoot is complete without making a mess! You know the cake smash is a success when the cake ends up on the floor and the cake stand is tipped upside down! There was cake everywhere, plenty of giggles, and lots of little hands exploring every crumb. Those are always the moments that create the biggest smiles and the most memorable photographs.

After all the cake-covered fun, it was time for everyone's favourite part—the bubble bath photos. Molly and George absolutely loved splashing in the little bathtub, washing away the icing while giving us even more adorable expressions to capture. The bath tub shots are always the perfect ending to a cake smash session, and these two certainly made the most of every splash.
